Stevenson Hamilton memorial site
We went to the Kruger Park during 2-6August 2006 to compete in the Sterling Half Marathon that was held in Skukuza and we stayed at the Berg-en-Dal Camp. On Friday, 4th August we went to the Stevenson Hamilton memorial site and were shocked about the dirty and filthy surroundings.
The dustbin was overflowing; with litter strewn around the bin and all over there were heaps of toilet paper as people use the area for their personal needs.
We want to know why the place can’t be cleaned and why a mobile toilet cannot be erected there. When the public are allowed to get out of their vehicles there will be for sure someone needing a toilet – what about small children’s needs? We also saw that the baboons are sleeping on the high rocks and this situation is highly unsuitable and dangerous for them.
Another concerning matter is the burnt down areas that seems to be uncontrolled and just being burnt down for the sake of the matter. Are these fires being planned in the specific areas? There was not any lightning that could have been the cause for the fires because it is still winter.
