Bible translated into Tsonga 100 years ago - Olifants Camp

The Tsonga Bible is a 100 years old this year. Only the Tswana bible is older at 150 years. Mike Taylor, representing
the Bible Society, spent the first weekend in March at Olifants Camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP) to hand out Tsonga bibles to staff. The Mt Horeb Presbyterian congregation,based in Polokwane, Limpopo, donated the first batch of bibles. “Various other donors have also contributed for more and these bibles will be handed out at Letaba, Mopani and Shingwedzi camps in the near future,” says Leon Taylor.Leon and Edelweis Taylor moved to Phalaborwa recently from Polokwane.

olifants residents holding their biblesLeon will conduct services in Namakgale, Olifants, Letaba and Mopani camps, the Defence Force’s 7 SAI in Phalaborwa, as well as the satellite army camps in Kruger and Tzaneen.Leon says for the past eight years the members of Mt Horeb have been instrumental in ensuring that services are held at Letaba on a monthly basis. “Services are now held on the 1st Sunday at Olifants and the 3rd Sunday at Letaba. Mopani Camp will be served on the 2nd Sunday when negotiations have been concluded,” says Leon.Leon says the late Dirk Nel initiated a choir at Mopani Camp and arrangements to get the choir going again are underway
