Bible translated into Tsonga 100 years ago - Olifants Camp
The Tsonga Bible is a 100 years old this year. Only the Tswana
bible is older at 150 years. Mike Taylor, representing
the Bible Society, spent the first weekend in March at Olifants Camp
in the Kruger National Park (KNP) to hand out Tsonga bibles to
staff. The Mt Horeb Presbyterian congregation, based in Polokwane,
Limpopo, donated the first batch of bibles. “Various other donors
have also contributed for more and these bibles will be handed out
at Letaba, Mopani and Shingwedzi camps in the near future,” says
Leon Taylor.Leon and Edelweis Taylor moved to Phalaborwa recently
from Polokwane.
Leon will conduct services in Namakgale, Olifants, Letaba and
Mopani camps, the Defence Force’s 7 SAI in Phalaborwa, as well as
the satellite army camps in Kruger and Tzaneen.Leon says for the
past eight years the members of Mt Horeb have been instrumental in
ensuring that services are held at Letaba on a monthly basis.
“Services are now held on the 1st Sunday at Olifants and the 3rd
Sunday at Letaba. Mopani Camp will be served on the 2nd Sunday when
negotiations have been concluded,” says Leon.Leon says the late Dirk
Nel initiated a choir at Mopani Camp and arrangements to get the
choir going again are underway
